WHAT
WE DO
At Global Rights Defenders we are committed to motto "Nothing about us, without us" meaning that no policy should be decided by any representative without the full and direct participation of members of the group(s) affected by that policy.
Our Programmes
1
Research
GRD is committed to understanding gaps and challenges in migration governance measures worldwide. When countries do not have avenues for integration, people seeking refuge remain unprotected and can be subjected to harmful practices. This includes arbitrary arrests and detention, forced disappearances, human trafficking, physical and sexual abuse and so much more. That is why Global Rights Defenders is committed to helping those most vulnerable by producing research that will inform inclusive policies.
Global Refugee Research Program
-
GRD will undertake research projects to inform our programming which includes both primary and secondary research
-
GRD will endeavour in qualitative, quantitative or mixed research methods where appropriate
-
GRD will work alongside key stakeholders to inform our projects such as individuals with lived experience of forced displacement, academics, research institutes, policy or law makers, government officials, I/NGO representatives, and related
-
“Nothing about us, without us”
-
-
Information procured from our research will provide GRD with evidence-based information to inform our future programming or campaigns
Policy & Advocacy
Through our research, we will identify/highlight gaps and challenges in migration governance measures such as policies, laws or frameworks, and provide recommendations within the context we work in. We will partner with local organizations, institutions, and practitioners which advocate for policy reform within their local contexts, to supplement their efforts where possible. We will provide the research, share our campaigns with our global audience, and serve as a support system with our evidence-based information
2
-
Our first goal is to work within contexts that have agreed to implement the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework, or tenets within it. Specifically, we are looking to work in countries that adhere to promoting refugee self-reliance
-
Our aim is to understand the gaps and challenges in those countries first, so that we can work in countries which have some form of migration governance measures but have not included self-reliance measures
-
We strive to be experts in migration policy for the promotion and protection of displaced populations as well as to support avenues for durable solutions

GRD is committed to supporting the communities we serve. We will do so through community engagement activities such as capacity trainings, seminars, online engagements, events, institutional operations and more. GRD intends to amplify the voices of our communities, and assist vulnerable populations to achieve self-reliance
